NHL Playoffs 2011 Blog - Hockey - What to Look forward to in Round 1

What to Look Forward to in The First Round of the NHL 2011 Playoffs

Hockey at it's Best

The post season is finally here.  2011 should bring fans hard hitting & exciting actions.  Which team will be disciplined and be able to sustain pressure to win 16 games?  Can Vancouver finally get over the hump?  As the pace of play and stakes increase, who will emerge as the Stanley Cup Champion?

A Brief Look at Round 1

Washington V New York Rangers

  • Have Ovechkin & Co. learned from the past?  Will the new 'defensive' style bring them success?
  • Henrik Lunqvist must steal a game or two
  • Will Greene be back & contributing?  Can the Rangers overcome the loss of Callahan to score enough goals?

Boston V Montreal

  • Can the Canadiens step up to match the physical game of the Bruins?
  • Can PK Subban create enough offensive chances without making too many costly errors?
  • Can Carey Price be as good as Halak was last year in upsetting the Caps & Pens??

Philadelphia V Buffalo

  • Mike Richards ability to outplay any Buffalo forwards with intensity & grit
  • Secondary scoring from both teams will be the key
  • Can Bobrovski be consistent enough to not cost Philly at key times???

Pittsburgh V Tampa Bay

  • Much improved Tampa Team is well coached by Boucher
  • WIll Lecavalier-Gagne be a miss-match against the depleted Pens??
  • Will Neal-Kovalev show up to give the Pens hope??

Detroit V Phoenix

  • Rematch from last year.  Can a matured Phoenix team take the Red Wings out of their comfort zone??
  • Can Phoenix get offensive output from their Blue line to take pressure off of forwards (Morris/Yandle & Co.)??
  • Can Jimmy Howard make the first save???

Anaheim V Nashville

  • Predators (the most under-rated team in the NHL) play a hard game & are a balanced squat from Goaltending-Defence-Forwards
  • Anaheim line of Getzlaff-Perry-Ryan was the leagues best in second half of season
  • Will the NHL media cover this series???

San Jose V Los Angelas

  • Loss of Kopitar late in season will put added pressure on Brown-Penner & Co. to keep pace with Sharks scoring attack
  • Ability of San Jose to wear down Doughty & young LA defence
  • Turnovers - the team that has the least turnovers at the blue lines & commits to pushing the play in deep will likely win this series

Vancouver V Chicago

  • Role Reversal - last year the Black Hawks were the deepest squad.  Salary cap constraints have changed the roster significantly. Canucks have done a great job to bolster the blueline & secondary scoring to the Sedins
  • WIll Toews & Kane dominate to take the play away from te Sedins
  • Can Keith-Seabrooke play 30+ minutes to keep the Hawks transition game intact??

Enjoy,
